CANDLE CARE & SAFETY

CANDLE CARE

       LIGHTING YOUR CANDLE

  • Ensure your candle is at room temperature before lighting as the candle may tunnel with cooler temps.

  • Burn your candle on a protective, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts.

  • Tilt the candle when using a match to prevent from getting burned. It takes a few seconds for the wick to pull the wax up to fuel it and to give a good flame. If you find the flame is too large, trim the wick to ¼".

       BURNING YOUR CANDLE

  • The first burn of a candle is MOST IMPORTANT as wax has a memory of sorts.

  • Ensure with each burn that you give your candle enough burn time to develop a fully melted wax pool that goes all the way to the edge of the container and 1/4"-1/2" deep. Basic rule of thumb is to let your candle burn 1 hour for every 1" diameter of a candle.

  • A full 2-3 hours will be needed for a full melt pool but never burn a candle for more than 4 hours. If you don't let the candle burn and develop a full melt pool, your candle will begin to tunnel. Once this happens, the wick will struggle to stay lit as it will not be getting enough fresh oxygen and be constantly drowning in melted wax. This will shorten the life of your candle.

  • A good melt pool will also give off the best fragrance throw!

  • It's good practice to not even light a candle unless you're going to burn it nonstop for at least 2-3 hours.

TRIMMING THE WICK & THE PERFECT SIZED FLAME

  • The wick on our candles do come pre-trimmed so trimming is typically not necessary for the first burn but if the wick does seem a bit long, trim wick to ¼" .  For each burn thereafter, keep wick trimmed to 1/4" before lighting. Wick trimmers work best when trimming candle wicks.

  • At any time if the flame is a little large or dancing around too much, try trimming the wick  to ¼" . A well performing flame should be consistent in size (3/4"-1.25") and have little movement.

  • Every hour or two while burning your candle, you may need to trim the wick a bit to ¼". These wicks are self-trimming but they can still have carbon buildup which results in mushrooming on the wick tips which may affect the performance of the flame. Always ensure no wick debris ends up on the melted wax. Regular trimming of the wick is one of the most important tips we can share.

  • Once you've finished burning your candle for the day, extinguish the flame, recenter and straighten the wick so it's upright and ready for the next burn. When trimming and straightening wicks, make sure they're cool before doing so.

HOW TO FIX A CANDLE THAT'S TUNNELING

  • If your candle has tunneled, the first and best option (if your candle will stay lit) is to give it a good long burn until all the wax is melted to the edge of the jar creating a full melt pool and resetting the wax memory.

  •  If your candle won't stay lit because it's drowning in a wax of pool, try using a paper towel to soak up some of the excess wax or pour out a little wax. Wait for 2 minutes, straighten out the wick and relight the candle. Repeat until the wick has room to breathe. If this fails, try scooping out the wax on the edges of the jar to flatten out the candle top. This is easiest when the candle is unlit but still warm. These methods also work if you've trimmed your wick too short and the shortened wick is drowning in the wax giving you an underperforming flame.

  •  Remember prevention is better than the cure so allow your candle to burn for at least 2-3 hours to achieve that full melt pool.

      END OF CANDLE LIFE

  • Once your candle gets down to 1/2" of wax remaining at the bottom of the jar and you're starting to see the wick clip, it's time to extinguish your candle for the last time. Wick clips are set to a specific height for safety reasons. It's ok to have a bit of wax left at the bottom of your jar. This is normal.

  • If you'd like to recycle or keep your jar, try one of the following methods to best melt and remove the remaining wax at the bottom of the jar.

        1. The easiest method is to use a candle warmer. Place your candle on the flat surface of a candle warmer until the wax has                completely melted. Empty the melted wax, remove the wick clip at the bottom of jar and wipe jar clean with paper towels.

Be careful as the wax could still be hot.

        2. Fill the jar about half way with boiling water. Let the jar sit for at least 2 hours and the remaining wax will float to the top of          the jar. Empty the jar of the remaining wax and water and use warm water and dish soap to fully clean the inside of the jar.              Wipe dry with paper towels.

CANDLE SAFETY

 ENGLISH

  • Burn within sight, away from flammable objects, children and pets.

  • Burn on heat safe surface.

  • For best results, burn until wax melts evenly across. Do not not exceed 4 hours.

  • Keep wax pool free of debris.

  • Keep wick centered & trim to between 1/8"-1/4" each time candle is lit.

  • Stop candle with 1/2" of wax remains.

  • Do not touch or move while hot.
